The International Journal of Psychiatric Nursing Research is interested in hearing from contributors with papers and research relating to psychiatric nursing and from any allied professional staff who wish to share their work with other colleagues around the world.

Manuscripts submitted for publications should be addressed to the Editor, The International Journal of Psychiatric Nursing Research, P. O. Box Number 1062, Southampton, Hampshire, SO15 8LZ, United Kingdom.

Manuscripts submitted either on attachment e-mail or on a computer disk is very welcome either as a Microsoft Word documents or in a Text File. Articles are accepted for publication on the condition that they are original contributions, submitted solely to the International Journal of Psychiatric Nursing Research. Authors submitting a manuscript do so on the understanding that if it is accepted for publication, copyright of the article including the rights to reproduce the article in all forms and media, will be reassigned to the Publisher. The Publisher will not refuse any reasonable request to reproduce any contributions to the Journal. All articles will be refereed:

  • Manuscripts should consist of up to 6000 words in English and should be type written on one side only, with wide margins on high quality paper using double spacing throughout. Each page of the manuscript should be numbered.
  • Handwritten manuscripts, single spaced material and excessive interlinear correction are unacceptable.
  • Abbreviations where used must be standard. The System International (SD should be used for all units. Probability values and power statistics should be given with statistic values and degree and freedom, but such information may be included in tables rather than the main text.
  • Spelling must be consistent within the article, either by using British usage of (The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary), or American usage (Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary). However, spelling in the list of references must be literal to each publication.
  • Authors are to give their academic and professional qualification, position and place of work. Abstracts should summarise the article in no more than 200-350 words, and references should be listed alphabetically at the end of the paper using the following format:
    Publications by the same author(s) should be listed chronologically.
    Any text citations that involve more than two authors should include the name of the first author plus "et al".
    An example journal reference:

    Stanton W. R. and Silva P.A. (1992) Tracking Changes on the Patterns of Parental Smoking. Journal of the Royal Society of Health. 113, (pp) 12-16.

  • Books: Chapters in books should be listed as follows:

    Hawton K. (1989) Suicide and attempted Suicide in the Instruments of Psychiatric Research. (Ed) Thompson C. John Wiley and Sons, Chichester.
  • Tables: should be typed on separate sheets with numbers in Arabic numerals. The headings should be brief and describe the content of each table. Each table should be understandable without the text. All tables should be described in the text.
  • Figures: should be submitted as originals or as good copies. The figure should be clear and suitable for direct reproduction. Figures should be numbered with Arabic numerals and have a dear legend typed in double spacing on a separate sheet at the end of the paper.
  • Short papers usually of about 1500-3000 words will be accepted. These may be present material from a student thesis, or be interim reports of work in progress, and be consistent with the above manuscript requirements.
  • Book reviews of up to 500 words and letters are also welcome.
